San Diego, CA–San Diego State University’s Student Health Services notified the campus on September 1 of its first monkeypox (MPX) case in a student who lives off-campus.
The student has had limited access to campus and the exposure risk is low. The student is isolating off campus and recovering, SDSU stated on their website.
Student Health Services is monitoring the case with county partners. Close contacts of the student have already been identified, and are being directly notified through contract tracing.
In an effort to be proactive, the university is providing information and guidance related to MPX to help ensure that students, faculty, and staff are well informed about prevention and symptoms.
SDSU is closely monitoring the developments around the virus.
