San Diego, CA–The San Diego Superior Court has scheduled a public hearing for September 30 on the proposed placement of a sexually violent predator in the community of Jacumba.
The SAFE Task Force will be accepting public comments from Jacumba residents about the California Department of State Hospitals’ proposed placement of William Stafford.
Stafford was convicted of several separate sexual assault cases dating from the early 1970s through the late 1980s.
The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office, and the Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement Task Force are not responsible for the selection of the proposed site. That selection process is the responsibility of the Department of State Hospitals and the San Diego Superior Court.
The community has an opportunity to support or object to the proposed placement before it is finalized. The District Attorney’s Office and SAFE Task Force will submit comments to the court for their consideration.
Comments are accepted from September 1 to September 15 through e-mail at sdsafe@sdsheriff.org, or call (858) 583-7238. Residents can mail comments to SVP Release/SAFE Task Force, 9425 Chesapeake Drive, San Diego, CA 92123. Oral comments may be accepted subject to court ruling during a hearing on September 30 at 9 a.m. before Honorable David M. Gill, San Diego Superior Court, Department 2204, 1100 Union Street in San Diego.
