MARINE CORPS AIR STATION MIRAMAR–A military helicopter made an emergency landing Thursday at Imperial County Airport, according to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar base officials.

At approximately 1 p.m., a CH-53E Super Stallion with Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron (HMH) 465, Marine Aircraft Group 16, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, experienced an in-flight fire during a routine training mission. The aircraft landed safely at the airport in Imperial, California.

The Imperial County Fire Department swiftly extinguished the rapidly spreading fire after the aircraft landed.

There were no injuries to personnel.

The cause of this incident is currently under investigation.
