Vista, CA–An 11-year-old boy attempting to cross the street against traffic was struck by an oncoming vehicle on Friday in Vista, authorities said.

Just before 6 p.m, the Sheriff’s Department Communications Center received a call of a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian at the intersection of North Santa Fe Avenue and Vista Village Drive, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department stated in a news release. 

The boy was transported by air ambulance to Rady’s Children’s Hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. 

The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and cooperated with investigators. Alcohol or drug intoxication is not believed to be a factor in the collision.  

The Sheriff’s Vista Traffic Division is handling the investigation.
