Four people rescued after boat swept near Oceanside Harbor

By Gina Yarbrough

Oceanside, CA–Oceanside lifeguards rescued four people Sunday afternoon after their recreational boat was swept into the surfline near the Oceanside Harbor, authorities said.

Oceanside Fire Department personnel and lifeguards received a distress call just before 12:30 p.m. near the harbor. Crews located the boat and rescued the four occupants. They were evaluated at the scene by fire personnel and released without injuries.

Oceanside’s Marine Safety Unit secured the vessel and towed it clear of the surfline to prevent further hazards.

According to the Oceanside Fire Department, elevated surf and strong rip currents are expected along San Diego County beaches through Tuesday. They urge beachgoers and boaters to exercise caution, check ocean conditions before entering the water, and wear lifejackets.
