SAN MARCOS–A vehicle collision sent a motorcyclist to the hospital with serious injuries to his leg, San Marcos Sheriff’s department deputies said Wednesday.

The noon collision occurred at the intersection of Nordahl Road and the State Route 78 westbound off-ramp interchange.

A 62-year-old male was driving a blue Nissan and made a right turn against the red light exiting the freeway off-ramp. The vehicle turned into the number one lane of traffic on northbound Nordahl Road, directly into the path of a 44-year-old male driving a Honda motorcycle in the number one thru lanes. The motorcycle was unable to avoid the Nissan and struck the left side. The motorcycle rider was ejected from the motorcycle into the roadway.

San Marcos Fire paramedics transported the motorcyclist to Palomar Medical Center for a serious, but not life threatening injury to his leg. The driver of the Nissan remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.

Alcohol was not a factor in the collision. Deputies from the San Marcos station are investigating the incident.
