SAN DIEGO–A man is in custody following a vehicle pursuit that ended in a collision in the Chollas View area in San Diego.

Just before 1 p.m. Wednesday, a deputy from the Lemon Grove Sheriff’s Substation attempted to pull over a driver who was speeding on eastbound SR-94 at the Euclid Avenue exit.

The driver sped off and collided into the center median between the Euclid Avenue on and off ramps. The suspect ran from the vehicle and deputies responded to the surrounding area to search for him. He ran into Gompers Preparatory Academy in the 1000 block of 47th Street in the city of San Diego.  The school was briefly placed on lockdown as deputies and officers from the San Diego Police Department searched for the suspect.

Sheriff’s ASTREA/helicopter also flew overhead making announcements to be on the lookout for the suspect. Raheem Jackson, 44, was found hiding in a bathroom and was taken into custody.

Jackson is facing charges including felony evading, reckless driving, driving on a suspended license and operating a motor vehicle while in possession of marijuana.

There were no reports of injuries related to this incident.
