SAN DIEGO–On Sunday and Monday nights, and early mornings, October 29 and 30, motorists on or connecting to Interstate 5 in the La Jolla/University City area will encounter a series of rolling closures of ramps and I-5 lanes.

The closures are necessary to accommodate work on overhead utility lines. Crews will safely and efficiently transfer existing electric lines by moving and stringing electric transmission and distribution lines across the freeway to make way for the future Mid-Coast Trolley extension. The trolley extension is under construction with completion expected in late 2021.

To perform the work, the southbound I-5 on-ramp from Gilman Drive and the westbound Highway 52 to northbound I-5 connector will be periodically closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Southbound motorists will be detoured to Nobel Drive via northbound I-5, and back to southbound I-5. Northbound motorists will be detoured to Clairemont Drive via southbound I-5, and back to northbound I-5. Work will also require brief, intermittent lane closures on northbound and southbound I-5.

Traffic controls and detour signs will be placed to alert motorists in advance.
