SAN DIEGO–District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis this morning announced criminal charges have been filed against San Diego Police Officer Christopher Hays, 30, who is scheduled to be arraigned today at 1:30 p.m.

Hays has been charged with two counts of felony false imprisonment by menace, and three counts of misdemeanor sexual battery.  If convicted of all the charges, the defendant faces up to 3 years, 8 months in state prison.

“This pending case remains under review and additional criminal charges are possible,” said DA Dumanis.  “This defendant was in a position of authority, and he abused the public trust.  We’re working on behalf of the people of San Diego to hold him accountable for his crimes.”

Hays is currently out of custody after posting $130,000 bail.  The District Attorney’s Special Operations Division is taking the lead on prosecuting this case.
