EL CAJON–An El Cajon family was displaced after an apartment ceiling collapsed in their living room area, fire officials said Monday.

At 12:20 p.m., Heartland Fire and Rescue crews from El Cajon, were dispatched to reports of a ceiling collapse in the 700 block of S. Magnolia Avenue. Fire crews arrived on scene to find the ceiling, in the living room area of an apartment had collapsed. One person was home at the time of the collapse, but there were no injuries.

Fire crews, along with City of El Cajon building inspectors, inspected the apartment and neighboring apartment units. They found 23 additional units in need of ceiling repair.

A total of two adults and one child were moved to a vacant apartment at the same complex. Repairs to the apartment and the other apartment units are expected to begin on Tuesday.
