Vista, CA–The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office completed its autopsy of a woman who died of her injuries from an altercation with an unknown individual in Vista last week.

The victim has been identified as 41-year-old Mayra Mejia, a resident of the unincorporated community of Fallbrook.

The preliminary cause of death is pending and the manner of death is homicide, the Sheriff’s Department states in a news release.

A suspect has been identified in the incident, but that information is being withheld for investigative reasons.

On October 12, Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call, shortly before 8 p.m., of an altercation in the 1200 block of South Santa Fe Avenue. Deputies along with the fire department paramedics arrived on the scene and located a woman with signs of trauma to her upper torso. She was transported to a local area hospital for further treatment. While at the hospital the victim’s health continued to decline and she was pronounced dead.
A 40 to 45-year-old man was seen with the woman during the altercation, the Sheriff’s Department said.
The circumstances and motivations of the altercation are under investigation.
