OCEANSIDE–A driver died from his injuries in a roll-over vehicle collision in the area of State Route 76 and North Coast Highway in Oceanside, traffic investigators said Saturday.
The driver, a Hispanic male, approximately 27 years of age, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.
The 1:50 a.m. collision occurred as V-1, a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer, was traveling westbound SR-76 and approaching North Coast Highway. The V-1 failed to negotiate the curve in the road and the driver side tires struck the raised cement center median. The V-1 traversed the median and struck two wooden posts causing it to begin to roll. It continued rolling in a westerly direction and struck the signal light pole on the southeast corner of N. Coast Hwy and SR-76. The light pole was sheared at its base and V-1 came to a rest in the northbound number one lane of N. Coast Hwy.
The investigation is ongoing and it is unknown if alcohol or speed was a factor in the collision.
