Oceanside, CA–Authorities are investigating several suspicious brush fires that broke out Friday afternoon near State Route 76 in Oceanside. 

Oceanside fire crews responded to a 1:30 p.m. report of the brush fires along Canyon Drive, south of SR-76. The blaze was spotted in a heavy brush moving uphill towards homes on Walton Street. 

Additional fire crews arrived on scene from the south and saw another fire on the east side of Canyon and was able to extinguish that fire, keeping it to about a 10’x 10’ perimeter. Firefighters remained on scene for approximately an hour doing mop up in the heavy brush, extinguishing smoldering embers, according to Fire Battalion Chief Jessamyn Specht.

No property was damaged, and no injuries were reported.

Fire investigators received reports of an individual suspected of starting fires along the street. Oceanside police are investigating the incident as potential arson.
