San Diego, CA–The accessible ballfield at San Dieguito County Park is getting a new look and a new name. The San Diego County Board of Supervisors on Wednesday approved a resolution renaming Miracle Field to Padres Park as part of a 15-year naming rights agreement with the San Diego Padres.
The field, which was built in 2007 for people with disabilities, serves as home to the Miracle League of San Diego, part of a national organization that gives children and adults with disabilities the opportunity to play baseball.
Now, the ballfield’s aging surface will be replaced to meet updated ADA standards for accessibility and safety. The new turf will be smooth, seamless, and non-slip to accommodate wheelchairs and mobility aids while reducing fall risks and remaining cool underfoot.
The project’s estimated cost is $850,000. The Miracle League raised $600,000 toward that goal, including $310,000 in donations, $250,000 from the San Diego Padres Foundation, and $40,000 from Board Chair Terra Lawson-Remer’s office through the Neighborhood Reinvestment Program. The remaining $250,000 will come from the County’s Department of Parks and Recreation budget.
As part of the partnership, the Padres logo will be incorporated into the field’s new surfacing and site signage. Construction is scheduled to begin in December, with a grand reopening planned for February 2026.
