La Jolla, CA–The independent team of Brandon Nakashima and Bryce Nakashima of San Diego along with Arthur Fery and Alexandre Rotsaert of Stanford University have been named Co-No.1 seeds for the 132nd annual Pacific Coast Men’s Doubles Championship at La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club.
Brandon Nakashima, 20, is one of the rising stars in men’s professional tennis. He is currently ranked No. 73 in the ATP singles rankings. He finished 2021 on a strong note when he advanced to the semifinals of the Intesa Sanpaolo Next Gen ATP Finals in Milan, Italy, and reached a career-high No. 62 in the world.
Nakashima will team with his 18-year-old brother Bryce Nakashima, a nationally-ranked junior player who now competes on the International Tennis Federation World Tennis Tour.
The Stanford University doubles team of Fery and Rotsaert is No. 7 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division I doubles rankings with a 15-4 record.
Fery, a 19-year-old Sophomore, is currently No. 2 in the ITA Division I singles rankings with a 17-2 record. A native of Great Britain, Frey was an Australian Open Boys Doubles semifinalist in 2020 and a Wimbledon Boys Doubles semi-finalist in 2019.
Rotsaert, a 22-year-old senior from Boca Raton, Fla., was an ITA All-American in 2020 and a three-time ITA Scholar-Athlete (2019-2021).
“With many of the top collegiate teams in the country and the entry of Brandon Nakashima and his younger brother Bryce, we have an exceptionally strong player field for this year’s event,” said Tournament Director Bill Kellogg. “We invite tennis fans to come and enjoy all of the outstanding doubles competition each day of the tournament.”
Tournament officials used a dual-seeding format to seed the top 16 independent doubles teams and the top 16 collegiate doubles teams. To view the complete list of seeded teams, click here.
The starting times for each day of the tournament will be March 4 to 8 a.m., March 5 and March 6 to 9 a.m.
Main draw matches will use two out of three, 4-game sets with matches, regular scoring with a Tiebreaker for the 3rd set on Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, the tournament will use a best two out of three sets format.
The collegiate team scheduled to compete in this year’s Pacific Coast Men’s Doubles Championship include Boston College, Ball State, California Lutheran University, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS), College of the Desert, Nebraska, Pepperdine, Pomona Pitzer, San Diego Christian College, San Diego State University, Stanford, Southern Methodist University, UC Berkeley, UC Los Angeles, UC San Diego, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, University of San Diego, University of Southern California and Villanova.
La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club welcome tennis spectators to view the tournament with free admission. On-site parking is available for a nominal fee.
