SACRAMENTO–Gov. Jerry Brown has proclaimed a State of Emergency in San Diego County because of the West Fire.
The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services secured a Fire Management Assistance Grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to help ensure the availability of vital resources to continue fighting the West Fire and enable local, state, and tribal agencies to recover eligible fire suppression costs.
The West fire started Friday in Alpine near Interstate 8 and West Willows Road. The fire has destroyed homes, damaged critical infrastructure, and has burned 400 acres.
The County of San Diego declared a local emergency at 2:25 p.m. Friday.
The West fire remains at 400 acres and containment has risen to 30% as of 7:30 a.m. on July 7. Approximately 18 structures were destroyed and 8 structures damaged in the fire. according to Cal Fire San Diego.
Camp Pendleton Fire and other fire agencies are working a brush fire that started Friday at 11:30 a.m. in the Mainside area of Santa Margarita to De Luz. Although there are evacuations on base there are no evacuations in the City of Oceanside. Oceanside Police is monitoring the progress and will update this page should there be any changes.
