Imperial Beach, CA–A woman was arrested in connection with elder abuse, grand theft, and burglary in Imperial Beach, authorities reported.
The investigation began on October 24, when a 78-year-old resident discovered multiple pieces of jewelry missing from her home. Among the stolen items were a yellow diamond ring valued at $200,000 and a pair of diamond earrings worth $60,000. The victim promptly reported the theft to the Imperial Beach Sheriff’s Substation.
On October 30, detectives received a tip that a woman was attempting to pawn the stolen items in San Diego. Detectives arrived at the pawn shop, where they detained 39-year-old Maria De Los Angeles Cabrera. She was arrested and booked at the Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility, facing charges of elder abuse, grand theft, and burglary.
The stolen jewelry was recovered and returned to the victim.
