CARLSBAD–Authorities arrested a female juvenile and an adult male for the alleged shooting death of an 18-year-old male Thursday in Carlsbad.
The 16-year-old female was booked into Juvenile Hall for manslaughter and gross negligent discharge of a firearm.
The male adult, identified as 19-year-old Gerardo Gonzales of San Marcos, was booked at the Vista Detention Facility for felony child endangerment.
The identity of the victim will be released by the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
On July 23 at 7:26 p.m., Carlsbad police and fire departments were called to the 2300 block of Caringa Way to provide medical aid. It was reported that someone was hurt and needed medical attention. It was next reported that someone had been shot.
Police dispatchers provided medical aid instructions over the phone while officers and fire department personnel were directed to the scene.
Officers arrived and found the injured male in the courtyard of the complex with what appeared to be a gunshot wound. Officers began to administer life-saving measures.
The fire department paramedics arrived at the scene, took over life-saving measures and transported the male to a local area hospital where the victim was pronounced dead.
The investigation is ongoing.
