SAN MARCOS–A man suspected of stabbing his father at an apartment complex was arrested after he barricaded himself in an apartment complex in San Marcos, San Diego County Sheriff’s Department reports.

On Tuesday, just before 2:30 a.m., Sheriff’s dispatch received a 9-1-1 call of a family disturbance at an apartment complex in the 200 block of Knoll Road in San Marcos. When deputies arrived at the scene, they found a 49-year-old man with multiple stab wounds. The man was transported to Palomar Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Deputies interviewed family members of the victim at the scene and determined he had been stabbed by his 20-year-old son, Saul Resendiz, Jr.

Authorities said Resendiz was in the apartment at the time of the original call. He locked the door and refused to communicate with deputies outside. The Sheriff’s Department Crisis Negotiations Team attempted to persuade Resendiz to surrender to deputies at the location. However, he refused to comply.

Just before 8 a.m., deputies from the Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Detail (SED)/SWAT made entry into the apartment and successfully took Resendiz into custody.

Resendiz was booked into the Vista Detention Facility for attempted murder.
