Oceanside, CA–Two people were killed, and four were seriously injured Tuesday when their vehicle struck a tree and rolled over on Douglas Drive in Oceanside, authorities said.

Oceanside Police responded to a single-vehicle collision around 8:16 p.m. in the southbound lanes of Douglas Drive just south of Pala Road. Upon arrival, officers located two occupants who were pronounced dead on the scene, while the other four occupants were transported to local trauma centers. 

Douglas Drive was closed from El Camino Real to Old River Street for several hours to allow for an investigation.

According to Oceanside Police Department, preliminary information indicates the mid-size SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed when the vehicle struck a tree and rolled over several times before coming to a stop. The driver, a 36-year-old woman, and a 6-year-old female passenger were both ejected from the vehicle and died. Four passengers, including a 10-year-old boy, a 13-year-old girl, a 14-year-old boy, and a 15-year-old boy, were all extricated from the vehicle by fire department personnel. The ten-year-old male and fourteen-year-old male sustained critical injuries and were airlifted to local hospitals. The 13-year-old girl and 15-year-old boy were transported to local hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries. The 15-year-old has since been released from the hospital. 

The identities of the deceased and patients are withheld pending family notifications.
