OCEANSIDE–A pedestrian who tried to cross State Route 76 was fatally struck by an oncoming vehicle, the Oceanside Police Department said.
On Saturday, shortly before 9 p.m., police officers responded to a collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian on State Route 76 at Douglas Drive. Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive male lying in the eastbound lanes of State Route 76. The male pedestrian died at the scene.
Based on witness statements and physical evidence at the scene, it appears that the male was crossing State Route 76 from north to south against a red light. A vehicle traveling eastbound on State Route 76 in the number two lane crossed the intersection with Douglas on a green light and struck the pedestrian on the east side of the intersection. The motorist immediately stopped and waited for police to arrive. The motorist was not injured. Alcohol and speed are not believed to be a factor in this collision. The name of the deceased has not been released pending family notification.
The investigation is ongoing.
