Encinitas, CA–The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office will host a gun buyback event on July 18, in partnership with the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office, the Carlsbad Police Department, and the Oceanside Police Department.
The event is designed to reduce the number of unwanted firearms in local communities by providing residents with a safe and anonymous way to dispose of firearms.
Participants will receive a $100 gift card for each handgun, rifle, or shotgun turned in, and a $200 gift card for each assault weapon or ghost gun. No identification is required, and residents may participate anonymously with no questions asked.
Free firearm trigger locks will also be available while supplies last.
Officials said all firearms must be unloaded and in working condition before being transported to the event. Participants are asked to place unloaded firearms in the trunk of their vehicle upon arrival, where deputies and police officers will provide further instructions for a safe collection process.
All firearms collected during the buyback will be destroyed as part of the participating agencies’ ongoing efforts to improve public safety by removing unwanted weapons from circulation.
The gun buyback event will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Encinitas City Hall, 505 S. Vulcan Ave.
