Encinitas, CA–The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office said Friday it began receiving inquiries from the public about a social media post showing federal agents in the publicly accessible parking lot of the North Coastal Sheriff’s Station.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the station was not aware of the circumstances surrounding why federal agents were present in the parking lot, which is open to the public.
Officials said the incident circulating on social media reflects that the location is publicly accessible and that the Sheriff’s Office does not have information about the agents’ activities.
The Sheriff’s Office reiterated that it continues to comply with California Senate Bill 54, also known as the California Values Act. Under the state law, local law enforcement agencies are restricted from using their facilities, resources or personnel to assist federal agencies with immigration enforcement.
Authorities stated the Sheriff’s Office remains committed to ‘building trust and transparency with communities across San Diego County.’
