San Marcos, CA–Sheriff’s deputies with the San Marcos Gang Enforcement Team arrested a juvenile Friday afternoon after discovering a loaded, unserialized handgun, illegal drugs and a large amount of cash during a traffic stop.
The stop occurred just after 2 p.m. on March 6 near the intersection of Autumn Drive and Tiger Way. According to authorities, deputies pulled over a vehicle for a traffic violation and found four juveniles inside.
During the investigation, one of the juveniles was found to be carrying a loaded pistol concealed in their waistband. Deputies determined the weapon was an unserialized firearm, commonly known as a “ghost gun.” Investigators also located illegal substances and a large amount of cash.
Unlike firearms produced by licensed manufacturers, ghost guns do not have serial numbers or other identifying markings. The absence of a serial number makes it difficult for law enforcement to trace the weapon to an owner or manufacturer, which can complicate criminal investigations.
The juvenile was taken into custody and is facing felony charges of carrying a loaded firearm in a public place or public street and possession of a firearm without a serial number.
Authorities did not release the juvenile’s name due to their age.
