Poway, CA–A tense six-hour standoff ended peacefully Saturday evening in Poway after deputies from the Poway Sheriff’s Station responded to a distress call.
The incident unfolded on the 13000 block of York Avenue when a man called 9-1-1 around 1:30 p.m., reporting that his roommate had attacked him with a box cutter. The roommate, who sustained abrasions during the altercation, managed to contact authorities.
Upon arrival, deputies attempted to de-escalate the situation by engaging the suspect in conversation, urging him to surrender peacefully. Despite their efforts, the man refused to exit the house.
The Sheriff’s helicopter unit, ASTREA, monitored the situation from above as additional support arrived. Reinforcements included the Sheriff’s Crisis Negotiation Team, the Special Enforcement Detail, and Deputy K-9 Handlers.
