Oceanside, CA–A violent domestic dispute involving a samurai sword led to a SWAT standoff and arrest early Saturday morning, according to the Oceanside Police Department.

Officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Arthur Avenue at 6:35 a.m. following a report of an assault with a deadly weapon. When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered a man suffering from serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators determined that the victim had been attacked by his brother with a samurai sword.

The victim was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Following the assault, officers attempted to contact the suspect at his residence, but were unsuccessful after several hours. As a result, the Oceanside Police Department’s SWAT team was called to the scene.

A short time later, the suspect, identified as 30-year-old Esteban Rivas, exited the home and was taken into custody without incident. Rivas was arrested and is expected to be booked into the San Diego County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

Authorities are asking anyone with additional information to contact Detective Theriot at (760) 435-4378.
