Vista, CA–A man is facing multiple charges after Sheriff’s deputies found a “ghost gun” in his vehicle during a traffic stop in North County Wednesday evening, authorities said.
The incident occurred just before 9 p.m. in the 100 block of Emerald Drive in Vista.
Deputies from the Vista Sheriff’s Station Gang Enforcement Team contacted three individuals sitting in a vehicle. The driver was found to have the firearm and a loaded magazine, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.
The driver, 19-year-old Frankie Escovar was booked into the Vista Detention Facility on charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Unlike commercially manufactured firearms, privately manufactured firearms, often referred to as “ghost guns,” lack serial numbers. This absence of identifying markers makes it challenging for law enforcement to trace their origins or owners, hindering investigations and crime resolution.
