Escondido police arrest three drivers in DUI enforcement operation

By Gina Yarbrough

Escondido, CA–Escondido police officers arrested three drivers on suspicion of driving under the influence during a DUI enforcement detail conducted in the city on Friday night, authorities said.

In addition to the arrests, officers issued citations to 31 motorists for traffic violations that are commonly linked to collisions, according to the Escondido Police Department.

Police Chief Ken Plunkett emphasized the department’s focus on roadway safety.

“We are committed to taking impaired drivers off the road,” Plunkett said. “Driving under the influence is not only dangerous, but also has major consequences.”

Authorities noted that a first-time DUI conviction typically carries an average cost of $13,500 in fines and penalties, along with a driver’s license suspension.

The Escondido Police Department announced it will conduct another DUI enforcement operation on Feb. 13 as part of its ongoing efforts to reduce impaired driving and improve traffic safety.

The enforcement program is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
