Carlsbad, CA–A driver was stabbed in his upper torso and back during an alleged altercation with another driver during a road rage incident Sunday afternoon in Carlsbad, authorities said.
Carlsbad police responded to a report of a stabbing that had occurred around 12:21 p.m. in a retail parking lot on 5620 Paseo Del Norte.
When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered the incident was likely related to road rage that originated on the Interstate 5 freeway and ended up in the parking lot.
Carlsbad Fire Department personnel rendered medical aid and transported the 22-year-old man to a local area hospital for treatment.
His injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.
The suspect, a 40-year-old man from San Diego, also suffered minor injuries sustained during the altercation and was transported to the hospital. The suspect will be booked into San Diego County Jail.
There is no known relationship between the two men and there are no outstanding suspects.
Carlsbad police are investigating the incident.
