Oceanside, CA–A structure fire at a four-unit apartment in Oceanside early Saturday morning displaced 11 people and a cat, the Oceanside Fire Department said.
Firefighters responded to a reported apartment fire shortly after midnight at 511 Canyon Dr.
When fire crews arrived at the scene, the lower unit of the two-story apartment was engulfed in flames and threatening to extend into neighboring units.
Fire crews applied water to the main fire while others searched the neighboring apartments for occupants while checking for fire extensions.
The blaze was contained to the first story and was quickly extinguished while crews ensured that all occupants and pets had been evacuated. One resident was assessed and released for reported smoke inhalation. There were no other injuries reported.
The main unit on the first floor sustained significant damage.
The Oceanside Fire Department is working with the property manager and Red Cross to ensure that all displaced occupants are provided comfort and shelter.
The cause and origin of the fire is still under investigation.
