Oceanside, CA–A wrong-way driver was killed in a two-car crash Saturday night on State Route 76, authorities said.
The fatal collision occurred at approximately 9:26 p.m. on eastbound SR-76, just west of Melrose Drive.
The incident involved a tan Buick Century driven by a man in his 30s, traveling in the wrong direction, which collided head-on with a white Honda Clarity driven by Stephanie Zamora, a 20-year-old resident of Oceanside. The man, whose identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin, sustained critical injuries and was pronounced dead at 9:31 p.m., Oceanside Police confirmed in a news release.
Zamora survived the crash with non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Palomar Hospital in Escondido for treatment.
Authorities suspect alcohol or drugs may have contributed to the accident. The Oceanside Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the crash to determine additional details.
