El Cajon, CA–Two suspects were arrested earlier this week on suspicion of vehicle thefts in the East County, the El Cajon Police Department said.
On September 6, just before 4 p.m., officers began receiving automated license plate reading notices near Greenfield Avenue and Main Street. Officers located a 2018 Dodge Ram reported stolen earlier the same day in the 1200 block of Broadway. When officers issued a traffic stop on the vehicle, they arrested Allan Irvin, a 31-year-old National City resident. Officers learned Irvin had a felony warrant for his arrest.
On September 7, officers received another automated license plate reading notification of a stolen 2016 Hyundai Sonata near Chase Avenue and Mollison Avenue. Officers in the area immediately spotted the vehicle and made a traffic stop. The driver was a 17-year-old male currently on probation for auto theft. He was arrested and released to a parent after Juvenile Hall refused to take custody of him.
The El Cajon Police Department recently started an automated license plate reading (ALPR) program utilizing Flock Safety technology. Flock Safety ALPR cameras send a real-time crime alert to law enforcement when a stolen vehicle, or known wanted vehicle, from a state or national database, is detected.
