SAN DIEGO–A 22-year-old male was killed when his motorcycle collided into the rear of a vehicle on Interstate 8, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said Thursday

The man was driving a dark colored 2008 sport type Suzuki motorcycle eastbound on Interstate 8, east of Mission Center Road at a high rate of speed.

At the same time, a 53-year-old female from Chula Vista was driving her Hyundai sedan on Interstate 8, eastbound in the far right lane and had just entered the freeway from Mission Center Road.

The collision occurred when the motorcyclist changed lanes to the right and suddenly collided into the rear of the Hyundai, causing both vehicles to catch on fire. The driver of the Hyundai sustained no injuries and the driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead.

The collision remains under investigation at this time.
