OCEANSIDE–A shooting in downtown Oceanside Tuesday night left one 35 year-old man dead, Oceanside police department said Wednesday.

The shooting occurred around 10:05 p.m. in the 400 block of South Freeman Street. Officers arrived at the scene and found the victim near the sidewalk. The victim suffered from at least one gunshot wound and was pronounced dead on scene by paramedics.

Detectives from the Crimes of Violence spoke to witnesses who reported hearing an argument followed by gunshots. Detectives are investigating the possibility that the victim and suspect knew each other; at this point they do not believe it was a random act.
