CAMP PENDLETON–The 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing (MAW) today deployed several aircrafts to help fight fires at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.

MAW deployed eight CH-46E Sea Knight helicopters and two CH-53E Super Stallion helicopters to the base.

Camp Pendleton officials say aerial support was requested at approximately 2 p.m. on Wednesday with the first aircraft arriving on scene at approximately 2:15 p.m.

A CH-46E helicopter can transport a water bucket with a capacity of 325 gallons, while a CH-53E can transport a water bucket containing 900 gallons of water to assist in the firefighting.
