Lemon Grove, CA–The Lemon Grove Fire received a grant from the Gary Sinise Foundation, which provided the department with over $26,000 in much-needed equipment, Heartland Fire and Rescue said.

Included in the purchase were several sets of turnouts (protective clothing worn by firefighters), a portable turnout dryer, and specialized firefighting boots.

“We would like to thank them for their generous support,”  Heartland Fire and Rescue said in the department’s news release.

The Gary Sinise Foundation was established under the philanthropic direction of award-winning actor and humanitarian Gary Sinise, who has been an advocate for the nation’s veterans, first responders, their families, and those in need for 40 years.

The foundation’s mission is to create and support unique programs designed to entertain, educate, inspire, and build communities, the Gary Sinise Foundation posted on its website.
