Escondido, CA–A 55-year-old woman suffered critical injuries after being struck by a hit-and-run vehicle early Friday morning at the intersection of North Broadway and Lincoln Parkway, according to Escondido police.
The collision occurred at approximately 12:40 a.m. while the woman was standing on the sidewalk at the northeast corner of the intersection beside a shopping cart containing her personal belongings.
Investigators said a dark-colored SUV, believed to be a lifted Jeep Wrangler or Rubicon equipped with large tires, left the roadway and struck the woman. The vehicle also knocked down a street sign and a palm tree before fleeing the scene.
Authorities reported that the driver continued north on Broadway and then headed east on East Lincoln Avenue without stopping.
The victim was transported to a local hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying and locating both the vehicle and its driver. Based on evidence collected at the scene, investigators believe the SUV likely sustained significant front-end damage in the crash.
