El Cajon, CA–A suspect is in custody following a deadly shooting that occurred Thursday morning in El Cajon, police said.
At approximately 10:13 a.m., El Cajon Police Department officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 300 block of North First Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered a man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Detectives launched an investigation and determined that the victim and the suspect were acquainted and had been involved in a verbal altercation before the shooting. The suspect was identified as 47-year-old Terrell Gibbs.
Later that same day, at around 4:30 p.m., Gibbs voluntarily contacted the El Cajon Police Department and arranged to surrender. He was taken into custody without incident and is facing homicide charges.
The victim has been identified as 26-year-old Jaquis Holiday.
Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing.
