SAN DIEGO–Governor Gavin Newsom issued an Executive Order on Thursday which requires all individuals living in the State of California to stay at their place of residence, except as needed to maintain essential services.
Hunger relief programs, including those operated by Feeding San Diego and its network of charitable and faith-based partners, are exempt from the order and continue to provide hunger-relief services countywide to people impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Volunteers and staff providing these essential services at these sites are not subject to the stay at home order.
“Feeding San Diego is working diligently to get food to people who are facing hunger, many of whom are experiencing food insecurity for the first time due to the COVID-19 outbreak,” said Vince Hall, CEO of Feeding San Diego. “We are expanding our existing distribution network, and implementing a series of regional emergency food distributions to ensure children, seniors and families can access the food they need. We have implemented safety protocols designed to protect the health and safety of everyone involved.”
In addition to regular distribution sites throughout the county, Feeding San Diego launched emergency distributions this week to help meet the rapidly increasing demand for food assistance.
