OCEANSIDE–The body of man wrapped in tarp and left in the back seat of a vehicle Sunday has been identified, the Oceanside Police Department said.

On Monday, San Diego County Medical Examiner’s office performed an autopsy and an identification was made. The victim was a Hispanic male adult in his 40’s. Authorities will not release the name of the deceased pending notification to family.

Police officers responded, shortly before 3 a.m. to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the 500 block of Douglas Drive. It was reported that the vehicle, a black Ford SUV, had been parked at that location for several days. When officers arrived they discovered a body wrapped in the back seat.

The case is being investigated as a homicide.
