While COVID-19 is a global pandemic, it’s being felt hardest at the local level. That’s why today Facebook is teaming up with GivingTuesday for the first-ever GivingTuesdayNow, a new global day of unity and giving in response to the coronavirus crisis.

Facebook is announcing new features to its Community Help hub to make it easier than ever for people to come together to #SupportLocal by giving to their neighbors, local communities and local nonprofits in whatever ways they can.

Starting today people can now go to Community Help at Facebook.com/covidsupport to:

  • Sign up to be a donor at local blood banks
  • Buy gift cards to support the local businesses they love as local businesses face financial crisis
  • Donate to their favorite local nonprofit fundraisers
  • Find local job opportunities

Facebook launched Community Help last month as a destination for neighbors to help neighbors, and since then the best of humanity continues to unfold through Community Help in all kinds of inspiring and creative ways — from people offering to do grocery runs for elderly neighbors who can’t leave the house to people sewing or creating 3D-printed masks to people donating and distributing personal protective equipment (PPEs) to health heroes on the front lines.

“We’re expanding Community Help to make it even easier for local communities to rally together to #SupportLocal this GivingTuesdayNow, and beyond,” said Naomi Gleit, Vice President of Product at Facebook. “Community Help enables people to give in whatever creative ways they can because everyone has something to give and every little bit matters right now.”

“At a time when many feel powerless to help, #GivingTuesdayNow is a moment when we can stand together in unity and give back,” said Asha Curran, CEO of GivingTuesday. “Whether you choose to give money, time, goods, voice, or a simple act of kindness–every act of generosity counts. We applaud Facebook for expanding this avenue for people to connect and give in a time when the need is so great,” said Asha Curran, CEO ofGivingTuesday.
