San Diego, CA–Feeding San Diego is seeking the local legal community’s support for its 12th annual hunger-relief program, Food from the Bar fundraiser beginning June 1.
During the month-long campaign, legal teams compete to raise funds, volunteer, and host food drives for Feeding San Diego’s programs that support children facing hunger.
Feeding San Diego is looking for additional participants to join and help meet the fundraising goal of $100,000. A team can be a law firm, insurance company, legal staffing agency, legal association, or an individual legal professional.
“Every summer, I dedicate my time to support Feeding San Diego’s Food from the Bar event. Having been involved for years, I understand the crucial need, especially during summer, when many children in San Diego face hunger without school meals. When I was a child, summer meant adventure, but for some in our community, it brings worry about where their next meal will come from. It’s a cause close to my heart,” said Frank J. Johnson, co-founder and managing partner of Johnson Fistel and member of the Food from the Bar steering committee.
During the summer, nearly half of San Diego County students will lose access to nutritious meals they rely on while in school. When school lets out for summer, families can’t access the meals. Inflation continues to impact households with limited food budgets.
According to Feeding America, nearly 80,000 children in San Diego County experience food insecurity. Many families rely on Feeding San Diego’s programs that provide meals for children during summer.
“By signing on to be a part of this annual campaign, local legal professionals show their commitment to making a positive impact in their community. Every year, we are so honored to be a chosen non-profit of legal professionals looking to support families in bringing nutritious meals home,” said Ali Colbran, senior director of development at Feeding San Diego. “Childhood hunger has complex ramifications that can impact a child well into adulthood. Hunger relief programs like our School Pantry Program and Backpack Program alleviate hunger in our communities. They would also not be possible without fundraising efforts like Food from the Bar.”
