San Diego, CA–The U.S. Coast Guard intercepted a small vessel carrying seven suspected migrants early Monday morning approximately 7.5 miles west of Sunset Cliffs.
At 12:37 a.m., Coast Guard Sector San Diego received a call from San Diego Lifeguards regarding a disabled 20-foot boat that had reportedly been adrift for several hours. The Coast Guard Cutter David Duren was dispatched to investigate.
Upon arrival, the David Duren’s boarding team discovered seven individuals aboard the vessel, including two minors. Four of the seven passengers presented identification. Six individuals claimed Mexican nationality, while one claimed to be from Chile.
The vessel and all individuals on board were transported to Ballast Point, where they were turned over to the U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Imperial Beach Station for further processing.
Authorities have not yet released additional information regarding the migrants’ conditions or potential charges.
