ENCINITAS–The “Ride for Roberta” cycling event honored bike safety advocate Roberta Walker, who suffered serious injuries after a truck struck her during her bicycle commute over the weekend in Leucadia.

Walker suffered broken ribs, brain and spinal injuries. She is currently listed in critical but stable condition.

Walker’s friends Encinitas Mayor Catherine Blakespear, Kellie Shay Hinze, executive director of Leucadia 101, and Assemblymember Tasha Boerner Horvath (76th District) spoke about Walker’s passion for safer roads for her community.Walker is executive director of the Cardiff 101 Main Street Association and a passionate North County bike advocate in support of safer roads for cyclists and pedestrians.

The cyclist community are calling upon the City of Encinitas to accelerate important safety improvements on Coast Highway 101.

The ride was organized by Leucadia 101 and Cardiff 101 Main Street Associations, and BikeWalk Encinitas.
