San Marcos, CA–Runners, walkers and families will gather September 26 for San Marcos’s 11th annual Double Peak Challenge, an event featuring trail races, youth activities and community festivities at San Elijo Recreation Center.
The event will include a competitive 10K Trail Race, a 5K Fun Run and the Kids’ Trail Trot.
The 10K Trail Race will take participants along a challenging course offering scenic views of San Marcos and surrounding areas. Runners will receive a race bib, commemorative race shirt and custom wooden finisher medal.
The 5K Fun Run will be untimed and open to runners and walkers of all ages. Participants will also receive a race bib, commemorative shirt and custom wooden finisher medal.
Young runners can take part in the Kids’ Trail Trot, a short sprint designed for children. Every participant will receive a finisher medal.
In addition to the races, participants and spectators can visit the race expo, compete for overall and age-group awards, and enjoy other activities throughout the day. A Beer Garden will also be available for adults 21 and older with valid identification.
The San Marcos Double Peak Challenge is coordinated by the Friends of San Marcos Parks and Recreation, a nonprofit organization that supports the San Marcos Parks and Recreation Department and its programs.
The City of San Marcos is supporting the event along with the Boys and Girls Club of San Marcos. Organizers say the event is designed to promote the city, its parks and recreation programs, health and wellness, while also supporting the Boys & Girls Club’s mission of helping young people reach their full potential as productive, responsible and caring members of the community.
The Double Peak Challenge will be held at the San Elijo Recreation Center Lower Field, 1105 Elfin Forest Road in San Marcos.
The event is expected to provide a day of competition, fitness and community celebration for participants of all ages.
