San Diego, CA–San Diego Legion has officially announced that rugby legend Ma’a Nonu has joined the organization as a part-owner, further strengthening the club’s dedication to excellence and the expansion of Major League Rugby (MLR).
Ma’a Nonu, born in New Zealand to Samoan parents and raised in Wellington, is a two-time Rugby World Cup champion with the New Zealand All Blacks. Renowned as one of the greatest centers in rugby history, Nonu’s illustrious career spans over two decades, where he excelled at both international and club levels, showcasing his talent with Super Rugby franchises and the All Blacks. From 2020 to 2024, Nonu also made his mark in Major League Rugby, playing for the San Diego Legion. His leadership extended beyond the field, as he captained numerous teams, offering invaluable experience and inspiration to every squad he represented.
“I’m honored to take this next step with the San Diego Legion,” Nonu stated. “This club and its fans have meant a great deal to me during my time as a player. I believe in the vision of growing rugby in the United States, and I’m excited to contribute to the future of the Legion both on and off the field.”
Nonu’s transition to ownership signifies his deep-rooted connection to the Legion and his belief in MLR’s potential.
