San Diego, CA–San Diego FC made history with its first-ever home match, drawing 0-0 against St. Louis City SC before a record-setting crowd at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego.
A total of 34,506 fans, the largest attendance for a sporting event in stadium history, witnessed the momentous occasion.
The club remained unbeaten in its inaugural 2025 MLS season, earning four points in two matches. Coming off a 2-0 victory over defending champions LA Galaxy, SDFC continued its strong defensive form, becoming the first expansion team since 2009 to keep clean sheets in its first two matches.
From the outset, San Diego FC pressed forward with Hirving ‘Chucky’ Lozano, Anders Dreyer, Luca de la Torre, and Marcus Ingvartsen leading the attack. Lozano threatened early, breaking past the defense in the 26th minute before St. Louis’ Kyle Hiebert blocked his shot. Unfortunately, Lozano exited in the 31st minute due to injury, making way for Emmanuel Boateng’s debut.
San Diego FC’s attack created several opportunities, including an Ingvartsen attempt from 20 yards out in the 33rd minute that missed wide. Midfielder Anibal Godoy forced a save from St. Louis goalkeeper Roman Bürki in the 40th minute. The home side continued to push in the second half, highlighted by an Ingvartsen header in the 74th minute that sailed over the crossbar.
Defensively, the team stood firm, allowing just one shot on target in the first half, which goalkeeper CJ Dos Santos confidently saved. Dos Santos recorded his second consecutive shutout, cementing the team’s defensive resilience.
San Diego FC dominated possession, controlling 67% of the ball and completing 639 passes compared to St. Louis City SC’s 283. Defender Chris McVey marked his 79th MLS appearance, while 18-year-old Luca Bombino appeared on the matchday roster for the first time since signing with the club on February 25.
The match was attended by club executives, including Chairman Sir Mohamed Mansour and Vice-Chairman Cody Martinez, alongside high-profile partners such as Manny Machado, Issa Rae, Tems, and Jocko Willink.
Looking ahead, San Diego FC will hit the road for its next match against Real Salt Lake on March 8, at America First Stadium.
