San Diego, CA–The San Diego Padres have secured infielder and outfielder Jurickson Profar for the 2024 season, signing him to a one-year contract, announced President of Baseball Operations and General Manager A.J. Preller.
Profar, 30, split his 2023 season between the Colorado Rockies and Padres, achieving a combined batting average of .242 (111-for-459) with 27 doubles, two triples, nine home runs, 46 RBI, and 55 runs scored in 125 games. Joining the Padres in September of last season, the switch-hitter boasted an impressive slash line of .295/.368/.409 in 49 plate appearances over 14 games. During this time, he made appearances at first base, second base, left field, and right field. His contributions were instrumental in the Padres’ 16-5 record in the last month of the season.
Hailing from Willemstad, Curaçao, Profar has maintained a .238 career average (759-for-3,183) with a .322 OBP, 166 doubles, 17 triples, 87 home runs, 359 RBI, and 434 runs scored in his 961 Major League games. He has played for several teams, including the Texas Rangers (2012-18), Oakland Athletics (2019), Rockies (2023), and Padres (2020-22, 2023). Notable career highlights with the Padres include a batting average of .278 in 2020, 140 hits in 2022, 36 doubles in 2022, and 73 walks in 2022.
Profar has also showcased his talent on the international stage, representing the Netherlands in the 2013, 2017, and 2023 World Baseball Classic. Additionally, he proudly represented Curaçao in the 2024 Caribbean Series. His achievements extend to the Futures Games, where he was selected back-to-back for the World Team in 2011 and 2012.
