By San Diego, CA–The world’s premier off-road motorcycle racing series will make its annual visit to “America’s Finest City” as the Monster Energy SMX World Championship will bring the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship to Snapdragon Stadium on Saturday, January 18. This dirt-bike spectacle of man and machine will serve as the second race of the 2026 season, with the fastest and most uniquely skilled athletes on the planet set to battle for victory on a one-of-a-kind racetrack made out of 26 million pounds of San Diego soil, littered with air-inducing jumps, turns, and other technical obstacles.
The celebrated Supercross legacy in San Diego spans more than four decades, dating back to 1980 from the hallowed grounds of the old Jack Murphy Stadium, the same plot of land on which Snapdragon Stadium stands today. For more than 40 years, the sport’s most legendary figures have claimed victory under the bright lights of the city, from local icons like El Cajon’s Broc Glover, Ricky Johnson, and Ron Lechien, to decorated superstars like Jeremy McGrath, Ricky Carmichael, Chad Reed, and James “Bubba” Stewart. Now, today’s superstars like 2025 San Diego winner Eli Tomac, defending Supercross Champion Cooper Webb, and others like Ken Roczen and Chase Sexton are carrying the torch for the current generation, captivating millions of fans across the globe.
Local fans will also be able to cheer on two of their own inside Snapdragon Stadium, as El Cajon’s Christian Craig and Alpine’s Dilan Schwartz will proudly represent San Diego in their own pursuit of victory. Craig is a second-generation racer who now serves as one of the most experienced racers in the sport and has raced in front of the hometown crowd since the 2013 season. Schwartz is one of the sport’s promising up-and-coming talents, set to compete in his home race for just the third time in his young career. Both racers missed out on the action last year in San Diego and are eager to make an anticipated return in front of family, friends, and loyal local supporters.
In addition to the intense action on the racetrack, attendees can also immerse themselves in the sport of Supercross at FanFest, the ultimate behind-the-scenes experience where fans can see the teams and motorcycles up close, meet the riders during autograph sessions, interact with various sponsor activations, purchase their favorite merchandise, and witness special entertainment showcases.
