San Diego, CA–Former Cy Young Award winner and Padres Hall of Famer Jake Peavy is officially back with the San Diego Padres, this time in a front-office role.
The team announced that Peavy had been named Special Assistant to CEO Erik Greupner. In this position, he will support multiple departments within the organization and serve as a key ambassador to fans and the local community.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Jake back to the Padres,” said Greupner. “His competitive spirit, leadership, and deep connection to the game align perfectly with our organization’s values. His experience and relationships in baseball will be a tremendous asset as we continue to chase a World Series title for San Diego and our fans.”
Peavy, who was inducted into the Padres Hall of Fame in 2023, expressed his excitement about reuniting with the franchise.
“San Diego has always been home to me, and I’m honored to be back with my Padres family,” Peavy said. “From the day I was drafted to today, I’ve been a Padre through and through. I can’t wait to contribute to this organization’s success in any way I can.”
Peavy’s playing career with the Padres (2002–2009) was one of the most dominant in franchise history. He remains the only Padres pitcher to ever achieve a Triple Crown, leading the National League in wins (19), ERA (2.54), and strikeouts (240) during his 2007 Cy Young-winning season. Over 212 starts with the Padres, Peavy recorded a 92-68 record with a 3.29 ERA and remains the franchise’s all-time strikeout leader. He also ranks among the team’s top pitchers in several key statistical categories, including second in wins (tied with Randy Jones), strikeout rate, and quality starts.
Drafted by the Padres in 1999 out of St. Paul’s Episcopal School in Mobile, Alabama, Peavy made an impact in the big leagues and became one of the most celebrated pitchers in team history. Current Padres pitcher Joe Musgrove, a San Diego native, wears No. 44 in tribute to Peavy’s legacy.
In addition to his new role with the Padres, Peavy will continue working as an analyst for MLB Network.
